Former Supreme Court Justice defends President Akufo-Addo’s father: Calls for public fairness

Former Supreme Court Justice, Justice William Atuguba, has made a passionate call on the public to refrain from casting unwarranted aspersions on the late President Edward Akufo-Addo, father of the current President of Ghana, Edward Akufo-Addo.

Justice Atuguba described the senior Akufo-Addo as an astute and honorable lawyer and statesman of unparalleled distinction.

Addressing the gathering at a public lecture organized by Solidare Ghana and the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana under the theme, “Protecting our Democracy: The Role of the Judiciary,” Justice Atuguba emphasized President Akufo-Addo’s father’s outstanding legacy.

He highlighted the late Akufo-Addo’s unwavering commitment to upholding the law and his principled stand against tyranny throughout his illustrious career.

“You find on social media people trying to turn their anger on Edward Akufo-Addo, but what is the joy of turning your anger on the president’s father? Let us be fair in all matters and at all times,” Justice Atuguba urged, stressing the need for fairness and respect in public discourse.

Justice Atuguba further praised the late President Akufo-Addo’s contributions to the legal profession and the nation, citing his consistent dedication to the pursuit of justice and democratic values.

He encouraged Ghanaians to focus on constructive dialogue and engagement rather than directing their frustrations toward individuals who have dedicated their lives to the betterment of the country.
