Chelsea have completed the signing of France international defender Axel Disasi from AS Monaco.
The 25-year-old has penned a six-year contract with the Premier League outfit in a deal worth €45 million (£38.57 million).
The acquisition of Disasi provides much-needed defensive depth for Chelsea, especially after Wesley Fofana’s unfortunate knee injury. Disasi played a pivotal role in Monaco’s Ligue 1 campaign last season, featuring in all 38 league matches.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Disasi stated, “I am really proud to be able to be a part of this great family. I hope to achieve very big things here. To win titles. I will do everything I can to achieve those objectives. I am very ambitious.”
The central defender, who has earned four caps for the French national team, is no stranger to high-pressure situations. He made a substitute appearance in the 2022 World Cup final against Argentina. During his time at Monaco, Disasi amassed 129 appearances after transferring from Stade de Reims in August 2020.
Chelsea’s managerial reshuffle under Mauricio Pochettino has been marked by significant squad changes. Disasi is the sixth signing in a series of summer acquisitions, joining the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Angelo Gabriel, and Diego Moreira.
