The Frimpong-Manso Institute has called for calm and transparency, urging key stakeholders to foster trust and ensure peaceful and credible elections.
Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong-Manso, president of the Institute, in a statement, stressed the importance of addressing concerns raised by opposition parties while cautioning against actions that could destabilize the nation.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed dissatisfaction with aspects of the electoral process, particularly the voters’ register. The party has organized protests at Electoral Commission (EC) offices across the country calling for changes.
According to the statement, the Frimpong-Manso Institute recognizes the NDC’s right to voice its concerns but appeals for a balanced approach.
“The NDC is perfectly right to ventilate its objections to aspects of the election process, and even demonstrate to demand redress of their legitimate grievances.”
“However, we urge them not to overstep the boundaries of their demands and protests,” said Rev. Frimpong-Manso
The Institute emphasized the need for dialogue between the Electoral Commission (EC) and political parties to build confidence in the electoral process. It urged the EC to listen to genuine concerns and consider reasonable proposals to improve the system.
“There is an urgent need to build strong bridges of trust between the EC and the political parties to ensure peaceful, free, fair, transparent, and credible elections whose outcome will be acceptable to all sides,” the statement added.
The Institute warned that any missteps in the election process or an escalation of tensions could have severe consequences for the country. It stressed that a united and cooperative approach is crucial to avoiding such risks.
“Any slip-up in the election process and undue escalation of tensions can spell challenges of incalculable dimensions for the entire nation. And we must not, and dare not, toe that path,” Rev. Frimpong-Manso stressed.
