Rival Ga Mantse Pops up; Ayikoi Otoo dismisses legitimacy

The lawyer for the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has dismissed claims made by Boni King Tackie Adama Latse II, who asserts that he is the legitimately enstooled and constitutionally recognized Ga Mantse.

In a statement issued on October 26, Boni King Tackie Adama Latse II reasserted his claim to the title and accused King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II of unlawfully occupying the position.

However, in an interview with Vivian Kai Lokko on  Channel One TV on Monday, October 28, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, President of the Ga Dangbe Council and legal counsel for King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, countered that the delays in the ongoing court case are due to actions taken by Boni King Tackie Adama Latse II’s legal team.

“The two parties are before the judicial committee of the Greater Accra House of Chiefs. Adama Latse who issued the statement is very much aware that there’s a suit pending, he alleges that he has won many battles.

“It’s surprising that he wakes up and issues a statement that he’s the only Ga Mantse. He went for a restraining order and he lost that battle, the court allowed his rival, who is King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II to exercise all the functions of Ga Mantse until the case was over.

“Since I took over, we have been to court several times, the court has ordered that the parties should file their witness statements, but he has refused to file his witness statement. He has not been coming to court so I don’t know what happened today that he issued this kind of statement, it’s full of untruth.

“That’s the plain language. There’s an application injuncting which he lost. My client is working with the order of the court that he should continue to exercise the functions of a Ga Mantse until the determination of the case. The best advice for Adama is that he should put his act together and come to court so that the matter will be determined once and for all.”
