GATHERING TOGETHER

Scripture Reading: Matthew 18

“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20

The Christian walk should not be a lonely journey. It thrives when we have a relationship with God and fellowship with other believers.

• For where two or three are gathered together in my name. The description “two or three” represents the smallest possible group that can assemble together. As we begin the new year, it is important that we make the necessary efforts to congregate with other believers.

As Christians, we must see each other as belonging to the same household. Although we come from different backgrounds, when we join a church we become part of a family. In our natural families, we are bound by blood, in our spiritual family we are bound by our faith in Christ. We gather together because of what Christ did for us and we are united by His death, burial and resurrection.

When we gather together, the goal must be to worship Jesus. Starting the year on a strong spiritual note must be your utmost priority.

• I am there in the midst of them. The gathering of believers is primarily a spiritual activity rather than a social occasion. This by no means undermines the importance of the social connection that believers share, however, we must be conscious of God’s presence in our midst.

God is definitely omnipresent, but He is uniquely present in every Christian gathering since His Spirit indwells believers. Jesus promises us that when we gather together, He is in our midst.

This year, you must ensure that you don’t miss the gathering of believers. We must regularly attend church service and actively participate in church activities.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are present in the gathering of your people. Manifest your glory through us. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
