GFA calls off Kotoko vs Hearts of Oak’s champion of champions match

The Ghana Football Association has cancelled the Champion of Champions match between league champions Asante Kotoko and FA Cup winners Hearts of Oak, which was scheduled to take place on Monday, September 5, 2022.

According to the GFA, the decision was made due to Kotoko’s participation in the CAF Champions League, while Hearts of Oak’s key players are involved in the African Nations Championship qualifiers.

The cancellation of the Champion of Champions match allows Kotoko SC plenty of time to prepare for the Champions League while also allowing the Black Galaxies to qualify for the CHAN competition.

Kotoko will open their account on Friday, September 9 against Burkinabe side Rail Club du Kadiogo in the first leg of the preliminary round tie.

Black Galaxies will play Nigeria in Abuja on September 3 in the second leg, hoping for a positive result to secure qualification to Algeria after winning the first leg 2-0 in Cape Coast over the weekend.
