Ghana Black Stars winger Kamaldeen Sulemana is nearing full fitness after picking up an injury in preseason according to Southampton FC manager Russell Martin.
Martin stated this to the club’s media as he gave an update on the squad in the lead up to the commencement of the 2024-2025 English Premier League season.
The Saints get their campaign underway with a game against Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Saturday, August 17 at 16:00 GMT.
Sulemana got injured in a preseason game against Oxford United and his status for the Newcastle United has been in doubt since the injury was confirmed.
Aside Sulemana, Russell provided fitness updates on Adam Lallana and Ross Stewart as Southampton prep to play Newcastle on their return to the EPL.
“Kamaldeen is nearly fit, Ross Stewart is nearly back in contention, Adam Lallana is nearly back, so they’re in a really good place.”
Sulemana joined Southampton in the January transfer window of the 2022-2023 season from French Ligue 1 side Rennes.
In his debut season in the league, Kamaldeen scored twice in 18 appearances.
