The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has denied reports Ghana is collaborating with United Kingdom (UK) authorities to host migrants of Third Countries for processing and resettlement.
According to the Ministry, Ghana has not engaged with the UK on any such plan and does not intend to consider any such operation in the future.
A statement by the Ministry said UK newspapers on Tuesday 18th January, 2022 reported details of a document dubbed ‘Operation Dead Meat’ that contains, among others, a measure purportedly being drawn up by the UK authorities to send migrants to countries such as Ghana and Rwanda for processing and resettlement.
The Ministry indicated on 8th September, 2021 it had cause to debunk a news item on Sky News UK about a possible Ghana interest in a partnership agreement with the UK government to host deported or returned migrants of Third Countries from the UK.
The government’s position, the statement said, has not changed and stressed such publications that imply otherwise should be ignored.
