Accra Lions sever ties with coach Ibrahim Tanko;  Kraft takes charge

Ghana Premier League side Accra Lions has announced the departure of their Head Coach Ibrahim Tanko.

This announcement follows the club’s management decision to mutually part ways with Tanko, who has been at the helm for more than two years.

According to a club statement, Tanko has made his handing over notes available to allow a smooth transition for his successor, Germany’s Rainer Kraft.

“Tanko, who has been an integral part of our club’s growth and vision, officially handed over his responsibilities to German trainer Rainer Kraft, marking a smooth transition of leadership.

“Accra Lions gained promotion to the Ghana Premier League under Coach Rainer Kraft in his first spell with the club from 2019 to 2021.

“He returns with vast experience and an understanding of our club’s mission to nurture talent and compete at the highest level in the Ghana Premier League,” the statement said.

Tanko, on the other hand, thanked the club for their support over the years and was willing to provide any kind of support in the near future.

“I leave the role with immense pride, knowing that Accra Lions is more than just a club – it is family. While I am stepping away to focus on other projects, my bond with the team remains strong, and I will always be available to support the club in any way,” Tanko said.

The statement added that Tanko had been a backbone of the club, and that management was appreciative for his contributions and open to working with him in the future.
