Ghanaians don’t need another ‘try me’ candidate – Mahama jabs Bawumia

Former President John Dramani Mahama has warned the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer that Ghanaian youth are not interested in experimenting with another ‘try me candidate.’

He emphasized that the youth are in a hurry to create opportunities to ensure they live dignified lives.

Addressing the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign launch on Saturday, July 27, in Tamale’s Jubilee Park, he stated that Ghanaian youth want to be rescued from the mess created by the NPP government.

He said, “The youth are not going to try somebody and after four years decide whether you should continue.”

“They want an experienced hand, a safe pair of hands. They want a hand they have seen do it before to come back and rescue them from the mess created by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.”

Mahama stressed the critical nature of the upcoming elections, stating that the choice made on December 7 will significantly impact Ghana’s future.

Quoting Kennedy Agyepong, the NDC flagbearer stressed that ‘change is calling Ghana and that it is not Ghana that wants.’

“More than 80% of Ghanaians believe the country is heading in the wrong direction, as shown in the last Afrobarometer survey,” he said.

“If you are going in the wrong direction, what do you do? You change your course. That is why on December 7, Ghana must change course. We cannot solve the crisis with the same people who caused it,” he added.

According to him, looking at the figures indicates the situation is even worse than what the government tells Ghanaians.

He explained that it is going to take a lot of hard work all the cooperation of the whole country to be able to lift Ghana back on its feet again.

Reflecting on his previous tenure, the former President acknowledged that while it was not perfect, progress was being made under his leadership.

He emphasized the challenges that lie ahead, given the current state of the country, and underscored the need for a collective effort to reset and rebuild Ghana.

He said, “I’ve been out of government for almost eight years now. I did my best, and while things were not perfect, we were making progress.”

“What I can promise you is that I will be truthful to you. I will never tell you lies and I will never tell you things that I can’t do.”
