Ghana’s Ati-Zigi named best goalkeeper in Switzerland

Ghana international Lawrence Ati-Zigi has won the Best Goalkeeper of the Season award in the Swiss Super League for the 2022-23 campaign.

The Black Stars and St Gallen shot-stopper received the prestigious award on Wednesday evening, adding another accolade to his already impressive career.

Ati-Zigi’s exceptional performances earned him not only the Best Goalkeeper title but also secured him a spot in the Team of the Season. The 26-year-old goalkeeper beat stiff competition from three other talented shot-stoppers to claim the number one spot in the Golden 11 of the 2022-23 season.

Competing against Grasshopper FC’s Andre Moreira, Young Boys’ Anthony Racioppi, and Servette FC’s Jeremy Frick, Ati-Zigi emerged as the preferred choice among the goalkeeping talents in the league.

Throughout the season, Ati-Zigi’s contributions to St Gallen were nothing short of remarkable. Making 30 appearances, he showcased his exceptional skills, averaging 3.4 saves per game (70% save rate).

Furthermore, Ati-Zigi’s consistent performances earned him five appearances in the Swiss League Team of the Week, further solidifying his status as one of the league’s standout players.

Earlier in the season, Ati-Zigi had already been recognized for his outstanding form by being named the best goalkeeper of the first half of the campaign
