GIVE US HELP, O LORD

Scripture Reading: Psalm 60

Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless. Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies. Psalm 60:11–12

Are there people whom God cannot help? Generally, no one is beyond God’s help. But there are certain kinds of people who disconnect themselves from God’s help. These are those who trust in other gods and those who trust only in themselves. Where do you put your trust?

Many people are so full of their own sense of power and accomplishment that they fail to give God any place in their lives. They are so conscious of their own competence that they cannot release their burdens to the Lord. Faith in their education, networks and money becomes a substitute for faith in God.

Close to those who trust in themselves are those who worship other gods. In our day and age, there is freedom of worship. Freedom of worship means each one of us have a valid right to choose what we worship. However, having a right to choose what or whom you worship does not make all worship right. The Bible is clear on whom we should worship.

In the Bible, anytime Israel turned from God to worship other gods, they stopped receiving God’s help.

The truth is that there are people who go to church but do not trust in God. They would rather put their trust elsewhere than in the God of the Bible. Some believe so much in the power of Satan to destroy but are unable to believe in the power of God to restore.

For such people, even when they say that they trust in God, they are unable to let God take charge of their lives and situations. They verbally declare God can do it, but they do not trust that He can do it.

When we trust in the Lord, He uses us to do valiant things. He is the one who crushes all our enemies in battle. The Lord can do mighty things with the feeble. He overturns the plans of the wicked and sets His children on high.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are my Help in times of trouble. Through you, I will do valiantly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
