GJA calls for professionalism and resilience in 2025

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has extended warm New Year wishes to all media practitioners and organizations, urging them to uphold professionalism and resilience in 2025.

GJA resident, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, in a press release, commended the media fraternity for navigating the challenges of 2024 and emphasized the critical role of journalists in fostering peace and national development.

2024, he said, was a challenging period for the media in Ghana, however, despite these difficulties, he acknowledged the resilience of journalists and media houses.

“Through our collective resolve, we stayed the course of professionalism to serve the interests of the people and Mother Ghana. Ayekoo!” he said.

The GJA underscored the importance of unity and professionalism in overcoming challenges in the coming year.

“There will be challenges in 2025, but we can only surmount them with collective and unwavering resolve to discharge our mandate secured from the Constitution and owed to the good people of Ghana,” said Mr. Dwumfour.

He called on media practitioners to remain neutral and avoid undue influences such as political, financial, religious, and tribal biases.

“We must not be swayed or influenced by any considerations that undermine our professional integrity,” the statement emphasized.

The GJA President urged the media to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability during the transition period stressing, “The media must not be, or give platforms to, agents provocateurs to breach the peace of the country. We must defuse, rather than diffuse, tension. And we must douse the fire instead of stoking it,” Mr. Dwumfour advised.

He encouraged the media to adopt a proactive approach to maintaining harmony and expressed optimism for the prosperity of the media fraternity in 2025.

“May all media practitioners and houses prosper beyond measure in 2025, even in the face of uncertainty and adversity. Afehyia pa!,” the statement added.
