As government makes moves to redevelop the Appiate community, GNPC Foundation has promised the Chief and people of Appiate a new 6-Unit Classroom block primary and Junior High School to replace the only 3-unit Basic School in the community destroyed by last Thursday’s explosion.
The Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Dr. Dominic Eduah, gave the assurance on Monday, January 25th, 2022, during a visit to the devastated Appiate community.
He said this is GNPC’s contribution to restoring education in the community which has been truncated by the explosion.
“We all heard what happened in this community last week. Having waited for a few days to allow the rescue effort, we decided to assess the situation and the possible solution that GNPC could also offer. Immediately we got here, two things came up. Thus, education is at the heart of what we do at the GNPC Foundation, but we realized that the only 3-unit classroom block they have here has been destroyed by the explosion, and they don’t even have a JHS. So what we have decided to do is to immediately look at possibly providing a 6-Unit Classroom Block being primary and a 3-Unit Classroom block for JHS. In addition, we are going to provide them with a new sanitary facility. We are going to talk with the State Housing Corporation to know their preparations towards the reconstruction so that the component that we are supposed to provide can be added,“ he said.
Dr. Eduah, who said the education of a people must not be suspended even in the midst of disaster, also promised scholarships for Appiate residents.
“Immediately the SHC is ready we would be ready too because the academic calendar cannot wait for the people of Appiate to be ready. One other thing we engaged them on is to help provide them with scholarship awards for tertiary students from here“, he added.
