GOD’S SURE PROMISES

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:15-22

For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. (2 Corinthians 1:20)

All of God’s promises rest on Him. God’s promises manifest His nature. When the Lord promises to be good to us, it is because He is good. When He promises to provide for us, it is because He is a provider. He promises to deliver us because He is a deliverer. Because of who the Lord is, everything He promises is sure and trustworthy.

A promise is a commitment to an intention and the assurance given to perform that intention. Every promise that the Lord makes to us in His word is a commitment He has made to us. He is fully committed to fulfilling every promise He makes.

The scripture says that God’s promises “in Him are Yes and Amen”. This means a number of things.

  1. God is true so His promises are true. What He says is the reality. He cannot lie or give us false hopes.
  2. God is faithful so His promises are faithful. We can rest our faith on Him and depend on what He says.
  3. God is a creator, so His promises are creative. When He promises something that does not exist in the natural, His word will bring it into being.

In Christ Jesus, all the promises God made in the Old Testament are fulfilled. God’s promises are settled in Christ. When we receive Him into our hearts, God’s promises towards us are also settled. And so, when we find a promise of God to do something, we can consider it as done.

God’s promises to us usually have two parts. On one part is what He says He will do and on the other is what we must do to receive from Him. Doing our part requires that we trust God and remain steadfast in Him. It also requires that we walk in His ways and honour Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, your promises are true and guaranteed. I receive from your fullness and abundance today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
