Govt committed to prioritizing gender mainstreaming in energy policies – Herbert Krapa

Deputy Energy Minister, Herbert Krapa has emphasized the importance of mainstreaming gender issues in policies and budgets across various sectors, particularly energy.

The Deputy Energy Minister further underscored the transformative potential of energy access, highlighting that when women are empowered with reliable and clean energy sources, they can drive diverse sectors of the economy and contribute to inclusive growth.

Speaking at the 2023 gender summit on the theme, “Africa’s energy transition pathways and vision of the green new deal through a gender lens, the Deputy Energy drew attention to the gender disparities that persist in Ghana’s energy sector and indicated government’s commitment to prioritizing gender mainstreaming in energy policies.”

“We need to be intentional about how we mainstream gender issues in policies across board, including in energy.”

”Of course, we [government] don’t have to lose sight of the fact that the global picture of sustainable energy includes women and that itself is a starting point and then we come down to intentionally directing policies towards granting women access to sustainable energy for driving various aspects of the economy.”
