Gov’t ponder tightening COVID-19 measures to avert importation

Ghana is set to review her COVID-19 protocol following global changes and a surge of new cases in China particularly.

A statement by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) indicates though there has been a decline and sustained low levels of COVID cases in Ghana over the past three months, the relatively low vaccine coverage poses a major threat to importation and a new wave of infection in the country.

This situation, the GHS said, calls for tightening and reviewing of existing measures to avert further outbreaks and indicates it will shortly come out with country-specific measures to address the current threat, especially with respect to the importation.

“We want to use this opportunity to encourage all Ghanaians who have not availed themselves of the COVID-19 vaccination to do so.”

“Those who have taken their first dose are to go for the second dose and those who have taken their second dose are also entreated to go for the booster. Vaccination remains the best protection against COVID-19 infection,” the statement said.
