Gov’t revenues are protected by state institutions like Ghana Audit – Darko-Mensah

Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is the institution responsible for collecting tax revenues for the government.

I emphasized that at the launch of “Tax and Good Governance Month” of GRA on the 26th April 2022 at the frontage of Ghana Post, Harbour in Takoradi.

An online initiative to get entities file their tax returns, pay their taxes regularly and comply with the rule of law.

This mandate will however not materialize if GRA fails to get the right messages across to tax payers and the general public.

I stressed that mobilisation of domestic revenues is crucial for the funding of government budget, execution of priority projects to spur economic growth and creation of employment in the public sector especially, having recorded 360,000 jobs since 2017 from 320,000 in 2016.

Also, supporting the private sector to succeed especially with the one hundred and seven (107) 1-district-1-factory and major projects in the Western Region.

In my submission, I highlighted the perception on the use of public funds and stated that the state have mandated institutions clothed with power like Ghana Audit Service (Headed by the Auditor General), the Courts and Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to protect state funds, which I believe, there is progress because government has created the environment for the institutions to work.
