Gov’t services go digital with the introduction of Ghana.Gov

Government’s quest of making Ghana a globally competitive market is taking shape as its single digital payment platform dubbed Ghana.GOV has gone live.

Ghana.Gov, a payment and revenue collection platform that provides a single point of access to all services of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government will help grow the country’s revenue by an estimated GH¢3 billion annually saving the country GHS 250 million in the process.

At the launch of the platform at the Presidency in Accra on Wednesday 14, 2021 Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said it introduction will increase access to public services and improve ease of doing business within the country.

He said the days where you have to make several phone calls or look for a middleman just to get information and help on a government service is coming to an end as the platform goes live to offer a simple and single user experience for all government services and make it easy for everyone to find and pay for government services.

“For starters, Ghana.Gov is a one-stop shop to enable citizens easily access government services, simplify payments for public services, ensure prompt payments for the services and promote transparency and visibility of internally generated funds.

“Instead of those who demand public services handing cash over to administrative staff, they will switch to a mobile payment system. Transactions will be recorded instantly, avoiding any bribery and corruption regarding the quoted service fee, and curtailing the risk of embezzlement,” he added.

This he said will help make Ghana globally competitive and increase access to public services through technology.

Also present at the launch was Minister for Communication and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta and Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

On her part, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful underscored the importance of the platform to helping government improve on digital inclusion.

She said this is one of the many government’s initiatives that seeks to formalize and turn the Ghanaian economy around.

The platform is available to all citizens, residents and non-residents of Ghana and can be accessed online at www.ghana.gov.gh or by dialing the short code *222# on any mobile phone (whether a smartphone or a feature phone / yam).
