Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, has voiced his concerns regarding the significant departure of experienced Members of Parliament (MPs) from both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This development follows the recent parliamentary primaries where the NPP witnessed the loss of 28 of its MPs, with 18 members opting not to run for re-election.
Similarly, the NDC experienced a loss of 18 MPs in their primaries in 2023.
In a statement, Henry Quartey, who also serves as the MP for Ayawaso Central, highlighted the potential impact of these losses on the Parliament and Ghana as a whole.
He emphasized the importance of the newly elected NPP parliamentary candidates familiarizing themselves with parliamentary practices to effectively fill the void left by their predecessors.
He stressed that the departure of these seasoned legislators represents a significant change for both the country and the legislative body.
The Regional Minister, however, expressed his disagreement with the notion that political parties should protect experienced lawmakers from internal election challenges.
He believes in the democratic process within the parties, where every member should have the opportunity to contest in elections.
This stance reflects a commitment to democratic principles within the party structure, despite the challenges posed by the loss of experienced parliamentarians.
