The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive Honourable Boye Laryea on Friday joined thousands of Ghanaians to mark the 2024 Green Ghana Day with a call to help nurture trees planted.
He stated that it is high time all Ghanaians support the initiative and protect the plants, indicating that huge sums of money have been invested in the initiative.
Speaking to journalists, the Okaikwei North MCE stated that the Municipality is expected to plant five hundred trees to mark the day and some ten million trees by the end of June 2024.
He said the weather was also apt for the national event which seeks to increase the vegetation of the entire country.
Earlier, Honourable Laryea joined the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Osei Opare and the students of Achimota School also in the Municipality to plant over twenty trees.
The event also saw the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis K. Mensah and other Departmental and Unit Heads of the Assembly planting various tree species to increase the vegetation of the Municipality.
The 2024 edition of the programme was on the theme: “Growing for a Greener Tomorrow.”
This ambitious target aligns with Ghana’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 64 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent by 2030.
