Chairman of the Hajj Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Codjoe Quaye is in hot waters following an illegal appointment to the Board.

Mr. Quaye known in politics as Sheikh I.C Quaye is rumored to have appointed one Hamza Tako, as a signatory to the account of the Pilgrims Affairs Office, an action which has invited a letter from the Presidency.

A  letter written by Nana Bediatuo Asante, Secretary to the President dated May 17, 2022  said “The attention of the President of the Republic has been drawn to a letter dated 15th May, 2022 from you addressed to the Ministry of Hajj and Umra of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia purporting to appoint signatories to the Hajj Accounts of the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana held at the Riyadh Bank, Al-Baghdadiya branch in Jeddah.”

The Letter from the Presidency

It further read: “In this letter, you purport to assign Mr. Hamza Tanko as a signatory to the bank account and describe him as a Board Member/Director Finance.”

According to the letter which called for a reverse of the appointment; “the President is the appointing authority for all appointments to the Hajj Board and the President is not aware of, and has not appointed, Mr. Hamza Tanko as a member of the Hajj Board” adding that  “The purported designation and description of Mr. Hamza Tanko is without any basis”.
