The Ghana Police administration has interdicted COP George Alex Mensah in connection to the ongoing investigation surrounding the leaked audio recording allegedly discussing the removal of IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
COP Mensah, a former Director-General responsible for the technical department of the Ghana Police Service, received notice of his interdiction on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
A parliamentary ad hoc committee is currently probing COP George Alex Mensah, along with two others, Superintendent George Asare and former Northern regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, concerning the leaked tape.
The trio is suspected of plotting to oust IGP Dampare during a discussion that reportedly took place in Naabu’s office in Osu.
At the parliamentary committee hearing, COP Mensah did not mince words when he criticized the current IGP, George Akuffo Dampare.
He referred to Dampare as the ‘worst ever’ IGP during his 31 years of service.
COP Mensah reiterated his concerns about Dampare’s management style, expressing that many police personnel are unhappy under his leadership. He also noted that he had shared his observations with IGP Dampare on several occasions.
Despite his criticism, COP Mensah clarified that he was not part of any plot to remove IGP Dampare, stating, ‘I don’t remove IGPs.’
