IGP petitioned to arrest former Acting Director of Law School Maxwell Opoku-Agyemang

A private individual, Korsi Senyo has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, to immediately arrest and put before the court, an Appeals Court Judge nominee, Maxwell Opoku-Agyemang.

According to him, Mr Opoku-Agyemang who is the former Acting Director of the Ghana School of Law and two other senior officers who’re still at post, perpetuated fraud and forgery after they were found guilty of illegally admitting 10 unqualified students into the Ghana School of Law for the 2021/2022 academic year.

The two senior officers include Juliet Adu Adjei, Registrar, Ghana School of Law and Marian Atta-Boahene, a Deputy Registrar, Ghana School of Law.

A committee of inquiry set up by the General Legal Council (GLC) established that 10 students were illegally admitted into the Ghana School of Law.

On the back of this, Myjoyonline on Monday, March 21, 2022, reported that Korsi Senyo’s petition wants the three to be arrested and hauled before a court.

“Sir, the conduct of Mr Maxwell Opoku-Agyemang and his accomplices as found by the GLC borders not only on illegality but also a possible case of fraud, forgery of official documents and corruption by public officeholders. Accordingly, I write on behalf of the millions of concerned Ghanaians to request your high office to immediately arrest, investigate and possibly prosecute Mr Maxwell Opoku-Agyemang and his two accomplices to serve as a deterrent to other public office holders,” the petition to the IGP reads.

That’s not all, Mr Senyo has gone a step further and petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice CHRAJ) and the Chief Justice to strike out from the roll of lawyers, the names of the three.

“Under Section 16A of Act 32, the Council is empowered to remove a lawyer from the roll without holding a disciplinary enquiry. It provides as follows:

“The General Legal Council may direct the Judicial Secretary to strike off the Roll of Lawyers without the holding of a disciplinary enquiry, the name of any Lawyer who has been convicted of an offence involving dishonesty or moral turpitude and the Judicial Secretary shall comply with any such direction,” the petition to the CJ reads.
