The Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has called on police officers to desist from arresting motorists who drive with a DV or DP plate between 6:00 pm to 6:00am.
He noted that there is no provision in the Road Traffic Act 2004 (Act 683) and the Road Traffic Regulation, 2012 (LI2180) that gives any restriction on the use of trade plates in respect of time.
In a press release issued to the item, the Police Administration advised the public and police officers to be familiar with the provisions in the Act.
It warned motorists to adhere strictly to the directives from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and stick to doing the right things.
As part of the directive, it noted that a motorcycle used under a trade licence shall have the plates bearing the trade number fixed on the front and rear of the motor vehicle.
“Daily and every movement of a trade licence on a motor vehicle shall be entered in the assigned log book,” it stressed.
The release added that a dealer or fleet owner must make the log book available for inspection by a police officer in uniform at the request of that police officer.
