Interchange or Flyover: Nana Akufo-Addo is first to build it in Tamale – Tampuli to cynics

Member of Parliament for Gushegu in the Northern Region, Hon Alhassan Tampuli, has lashed out critics of the recently inaugurated Na Gbewa interchange in Tamale.

Some critics of the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration have said the monumental edifice, first of its kind in the northern part of Ghana, is not an interchange but a flyover.

The Custodianghonline.com reports that even before completion of the project, there had been an argument especially from the quarters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the road infrastructure cannot be described as an interchange compared to the Mahama constructed circle interchange.

A Civil Engineer, Abdulai Mahama, also recently claimed that the edifice is a flyover, explaining an interchange must offer an opportunity for road users to switch roads and reiterated the infrastructure in Tamale could not be classified as an interchange because road users can only drive on top of it.

However, the Gushegu MP in a viral video standing on top of the facility with the MP for Karaga, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam lashed out at cynics of the NPP government.

He said in the local dialect, “This is the Tamale interchange; whether interchange, flyover, we accept it. We call it interchange and they can also call it whatever. And the flyover is the first of its kind in Tamale, northern region and the entire northern enclave and we thank President Nana Akufo-Addo.”

Meanwhile, the project is 1.1 kilometer bridge and ramps with drainage facilities and the erection of streetlights along the stretch and a 10km of Asphaltic Overlay around the interchange.

It is a stressed free concrete interchange (bridge) with very few joints to enhance driving comfort.
