Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has issued a terse warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and all those involved in the National Cathedral project that judgement day is coming.

The Minority in Parliament, he said, has already filed a Motion awaiting the Speaker’s approval for a full-scale Parliamentary probe.

He indicated the Caucus is also putting together all documentation about the National Cathedral and hinted every single page of the tonnes of documents gathered so far has a scandal, a breach, an infraction or illegality somewhere.

“A day is coming that people will be made to answer and all those who are illegally in possession of our tax funds will be made to refund all these monies back to the Ghanaian people.”

“And we want to serve notice that this practice cannot continue and one would have expected the private sector and even international companies will be interested in protecting their international brands.”

The Member for North Tongu expressed surprise international companies such as Rizanni de Eccher, Barbisotti & Sons, and De Simone, which together formed the Ribade JV that has been engaged could agree to construct a project under these circumstances and in such darkness and such opacity that is tarnishing their image.

“We are really disappointed in the entities who are colluding and conspiring with law breakers to shortchange the Ghanaian people. They should also receive our notice that they are not going to be spared and we will pursue everybody that is in illegal possession of our scarce resource,” he added.

The Minority, he said, would have thought such a project would be the epitome of purity of holiness, of righteousness, of legality and of truthfulness because it is supposed to be the Lord’s temple.

He wondered if this is what President Akufo-Addo and his NPP government are going about building the Lord’s temple, then what will they do in other projects, “Imagine if this was another project”

“Imagine the unending scandals, illegalities, infractions, breaches, unconstitutional conducts that have attended upon this National Cathedral project.”

Mr. Ablakwa stressed these are grievous violations in which taxpayers’ scarce resources are being totally misused and warned companies being engaged without recourse to the procurement laws of the country to beware because they will not go scot-free.
