Ken Agyapong sets aside $10m war chest to campaign against some NPP MPs

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who lost in the Presidential Primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reportedly set aside a $10 million war chest targetted at the seats of some Members of Parliament from the Majority group.

The Assin North MP is reported to have set aside the funds for all aspirants contesting these NPP MPs.

According to sources within the Majority group in Parliament, those targeted are the ones who publicly maligned his campaign in support of Vice President Mahamudu.

Starr FM reports that the campaign will begin in the Bantama Constituency and will target the incumbent Member of Parliament, Francis Asenso Boakye, ahead of the Parliamentary primary scheduled for February 2024.

Bantama constituency

Raphael Agyapong, who is the biological brother of Kennedy Agyapong and also served as his Bantama constituency campaign leader, has already announced his intention to run for the party’s parliamentary primaries.

This announcement has caused great excitement among the Bantama Constituents, especially among the delegates who had their names allegedly removed from the party’s constituency album during the compilation process for polling station and constituency executives’ elections.

Nearly 400 of these delegates, who lost their voting rights during the compilation process, have accused the Minister of Work and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye, of working together with some regional executives of the party in the Ashanti region to protect certain Members of Parliament in the party’s parliamentary primaries.

One will think after the alleged removal of about 400 delegates from the Album the incumbent Member of Parliament was in full clutches of the delegates in the constituency.

However, the outcome of the NPP’s Presidential primary proves the MP, who promised to give then-candidate President Dr. Bawumia about 80%  failed in the agenda.

The question in Kumasi is whether Francis Asenso Boakye can break the Bantama constituency’s record of changing members of parliament every four years. Only time will tell.
