Kissi Agyebeng ‘Eyes’ Sir John Frozen Assets

The office of the Special Prosecutor has set in motion a process to appeal an Accra High Court ruling over the continuous freezing of the assets of the late CEO of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie.

The office headed by Kissi Agyebeng had prayed the court to extend its power to freeze the assets of the late NPP Stalwart popularly known as “Sir John”.

Mr. Agyabeng froze the assets as part of investigations the office commenced into the acquisition of state lands and properties that were contained in Mr Afriyie’s will.

In May this year, it emerged that the will of Sir John contained some parcels of land at the Achimota Forest Reserve and the Sakumono Ramsar site. It also contained four parcels of land in the Achimota Forest, which the late politician gifted to some individuals.

But the court however held that the Special Prosecutor should have initiated the process under Section 54 of the Act.

The OSP in a statement issued Tuesday dropped hints to seek an appeal of the decision of the Court.
