The Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to exhibit arrogance now that they have won power and are set to form the next government.
She said, “We must not allow arrogance, pride, and hubris to fill our hearts because of this victory, as that will be the beginning of our downfall.”
The daughter of the late founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings, was speaking at the party’s 43rd celebration of the December 31st Revolution, held in the Greater Accra Region.
Dr Zanetor advised the rank and file of the NDC to take actions that would maintain the good image of the party and the principles of the revolution, which played a crucial role in Ghana’s democracy.
“We must maintain humility, we must maintain integrity, and we must uphold the principles on which the revolution was founded, which finally gave birth to this Fourth Republic that we are now striving to restore,” she said.
She claimed that Ghana would have descended into conflict long ago if her father and the NDC had not laid strong foundations, saying, “My dear comrades, if the foundation on which this Fourth Republic was built was not strong enough, believe me, Ghana would have descended into chaos by now.”
The MP also urged members of the incoming government to uphold and maintain this legacy. “We have a legacy that we can hold on to, and it is something that we must return to,” she said.
Following the NDC’s landslide victory in the December 7 elections, the party is preparing to take over government on January 7, 2025.
Meanwhile, individuals, civil society organizations (CSOs), and other concerned Ghanaians are calling on the next NDC government to govern diligently, particularly in curbing corruption, authoritarianism, and other actions that undermine democracy.
