La General Hospital: Minority fingers Health Minister in misuse of funds

Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, has been fingered in the misapplication of funds meant for the construction of the La General Hospital.

The Minority in Parliament, which made the call accused the Minister and the government of being insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians specifically the people of La and its environs.

Ranking Member on the Health Committee, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh who toured the site of the La General Hospital with the media on Friday questioned the delay in the commencement of the reconstruction work.

Two years ago the La Hospital was pulled down for reconstruction but the site has been abandoned leaving residents trekking long distances in search of healthcare.

Speaking to the media after the tour he said, “…the type of government we have at the moment has decided not to hear anything, not to see anything and act irresponsibly all the time.”

“I mean a facility which cost about 65 million euros and you have only one trip of sand on-site….one trip of gravels on-site, from all indications work won’t commence any moment from now.”

“…If you’re accountable to the people, once your attention is drawn to such a grievous omission or if you like irresponsibility, you must act with the speed of light. Unfortunately, here we are, a park, two years down the lane.”

He challenged the government and the Health Minister who he described as incompetent to prove him wrong and commence work if they have not misapplied the funds approved for the facility.

“As for the minister, the least talked about the better because he has proven to the whole country that he is incompetent.”

“They can prove me wrong and I want to be proven wrong. If indeed they have not misapplied the money, they should come to site and start work.”

“It could also be that they have used the money for other things. If indeed they have not misapplied the money they should come to site and start the work.”
