Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, has officially received a comprehensive report from the Appiah Kubi Committee, which was established to review the de-vesting of vested lands in Ghana.
This event marks a significant step towards resolving longstanding land disputes and ensuring equitable land management in the nation.
The report was submitted by the five-member committee chaired Andy Kwame Appiah Kubi, a respected lawyer and Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North Constituency.
The committee was tasked with building upon a preliminary report presented by the Lands Commission in 2022, aiming to address the complexities of vested land issues which have historically affected traditional rulers and family heads across Ghana.
Upon receiving the report on Monday, 6th May 2024, Abu Jinapor expressed his gratitude and optimism saying, “I commend the Committee for their diligent work.
“The profound significance of this report cannot be overstated as it represents a pivotal milestone in our journey to resolve the complex issues surrounding vested lands.”
He assured that he would thoroughly review the recommendations and forward them to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, expressing confidence that these would guide the government in resolving these issues conclusively.
“The submission of this report signifies that the long-standing issue of vested lands will soon be dealt with once and for all,” Jinapor added.
Hon. Appiah Kubi underscored the Committee’s efforts and stressed the potential impact of their findings.
He said, “We are grateful for the trust placed in us and are optimistic about our report’s role in guiding government decisions. Our findings are aimed at fostering equitable resolutions to benefit landowners and title holders across Ghana,” he stated.
The committee includes notable figures such as Kumbun-Naa Alhaji Naa Abu Iddrisu II, a fellow of the Ghana Institute of Surveyors; Dr. Wordsworth Odame-Larbi, a consultant in Land Policy and Land Administration; Mr. Dennis Adjei-Dwomoh Esq, representing the Ghana Bar Association; and Mr. Maxwell Adu-Nsafoa, the Technical Director for Lands at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
