Majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is warning against the increasingly open monetization of Ghana’s politics with respect to the conduct of internal elections.
According to him, it is imperative for all the political parties to come together to kill this mischief before it gets out of hand because it is very slippery ground.
He said, “We are increasingly monetizing our politics. I keep saying there is nobody in politics who is a Father Christmas or mother Christmas.”
“If you twist his hands to make any payments of cola, grains or whatever, he will live tomorrow to reap his harvest. So let’s come together to kill this mischief.”
Majority leader Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu gave the warning on Tuesday 24th May, 2022 while commenting on the welcome statement of the Speaker on the resumption of the 2nd meeting of the 2nd session of the 8th Parliament.
People, he said, sooner rather than later may lose confidence in Ghana’s democratic experiments if money is allowed to chart the path for the country’s system of governance.
He averred that democracy is supposed to yield dividends that will inure to the benefit of the people being governed and not those governing.
“Let’s live up to our responsibility,” he stated.
