Lions at the Accra Zoo have reportedly mauled a man to death after he jumped into their enclosure.
A statement by the Forestry Commission said around 12 noon officials of the Zoo on a routine patrol, noticed a middle aged man had jumped the security fences and entered the lions’ enclosure.
He was unfortunately attacked and injured by one of lions.
The motive of the intruder, according to the Commission, is yet to be determined.
The intruder has been confirmed dead from injuries he sustained and the body has been conveyed to the morgue.
Accra Zoo authorities successfully coaxed the lions into a secure hold and invited the Achimota Police to convey the body and commence investigations.
The Commission assured that the lion, the lioness and the two cubs remain secured in their enclosure and that none of the big cats has escaped from the Accra Zoo.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission Hon. Benito Owusu Bio and John Allotey respectively, have since visited the Zoo to ensure all facilities remain secure.
