State Drops Charges against Opuni, Seidu Agongo

The Attorney-General says the State is no longer interested in sustaining the charges against the former Cocobod CEO, Dr Stephen Kwabena Opuni.

The former COCOBOD CEO was in the dock with businessman Seidu Agongo.

The two have over the past eight years been slapped with 27 charges in court, including allegedly defrauding the state by false pretences, wilfully causing financial loss to the state & contravening public procurement provisions.

However, appearing in court on Tuesday, Enam Loh Mensah, a State Attorney, told the court that the State is no more interested in pressing charges against the accused persons.

She said “My Lord, pursuant to this, the Republic has filed notice of withdrawal.”

This compelled the trial judge to acquit and discharge the accused persons of all the criminal charges brought against them by the State.

The accused persons had consistently denied the charges.

Counsel for Opuni and Agongo, Samuel Cudjoe and Benson Nutsukpui, told the court they have been served with the withdrawal notice.
