Maame Yaa Konamah, the popular broadcaster with Despite Media has been honored with the prestigious Africa Peace Advocate Award for 2024.
She is one of fifty (50) individuals recognized for their unwavering efforts in promoting peace and harmony across the continent.
In addition to Konamah’s recognition, four other individuals who have demonstrated tireless commitment towards fostering peace across Africa were also inducted as new Peace Ambassadors.
The Africa Peace Advocate Awards is an initiative of the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA).
It seeks to acknowledge individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to peace efforts in Africa.
The 2024 honorees include leaders, peace advocates, and humanitarians, celebrated for their outstanding work in promoting peace and security.
At the award ceremony, IAWPA-Ghana’s Country Director, Dr. Ben Samuel Owusu, reiterated the organization’s dedication to advancing peace, security, and women’s empowerment throughout Africa.
He noted that the induction of peace ambassadors serves as a motivation for continued peace-building efforts, encouraging others to contribute to the vision of a harmonious and prosperous continent.
The event attracted dignitaries from various sectors, including members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, and representatives of civil society organizations.
Dr. Owusu also praised the awardees for their selfless dedication to the cause of peace, recognizing their efforts as an inspiration to all.
Maame Yaa Konamah, officially known as Lydia Maame Konamah and affectionately called “Maame Yaa” by her family, is a professional, ambitious, articulate, and confident individual who thrives on challenges and working under pressure.
Her greatest strengths lie in research for developing documentaries, interviewing, and communication skills.
She has been in the media landscape for over twenty-two years, starting in 2001 after completing secondary school.
Her media journey began at Classic FM in Techiman, Bono East. While attending university, she worked part-time at ATL FM in Cape Coast as a broadcast journalist.
In 2013, she joined the Despite Media Group, where she has continued to grow through hard work and dedication.
Over the years, she has honed her skills, evolving from news casting to documentary scripting, narration, and program hosting.
Currently, Maame Yaa is the host of the UTV Breakfast Show, Adekye Nsroma, and also serves as a newscaster at Peace FM
Maame Yaa holds a Bachelor of Education Degree (B.ED) in Psychology with a combined major in English and Education from the University of Cape Coast (2008).
She also holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from GIMPA and has pursued a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies (MASCOM) at the University of Ghana, Legon.
She is currently pursuing another Master’s Degree in Law (LLM – Alternative Dispute Resolution, ADR) at the University of Ghana, Legon.
She completed her secondary education at Wesley Girls’ High School, Cape Coast.
Maame Yaa Konamah has received several awards over the years, including the Most Outstanding Female Presenter of the Contemporary Era at The Pan African Executive Awards Summit in 2018.
She has also been nominated in various categories of the Radio and Television Awards throughout her career.
She is a phenomenal journalist and the reigning Best Female Journalist in Ghana’s media space.
