The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has been appointed as the Majority Leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament.
The announcement was made by Speaker Alban Bagbin during a Parliamentary sitting on Thursday, January 23, 2025, following a reshuffle by the NDC’s National Secretariat.
A seasoned politician and Harvard-trained lawyer, Hon. Ayariga takes over from Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who has been appointed Finance Minister in President John Dramani Mahama’s second term.
The newly constituted NDC front bench includes Hon. Ricket Hagan (Deputy Majority Leader), Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (Majority Chief Whip), Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah (First Deputy Majority Whip), and Hon. Richard Acheampong (Second Deputy Majority Whip).
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Ayariga pledged to lead with responsibility and inclusivity while upholding accountability.
“We are an overwhelming Majority, but we will strive for inclusivity, consensus-building, and upholding the principles of probity and accountability,” he stated.
He emphasized the need for constructive dialogue to address challenges.
“Through constructive dialogue and mutual respect, we can overcome obstacles and deliver on our collective vision,” he said.
The Bawku Central MP urged his colleagues to honour the trust Ghanaians have placed in them, stating, “The people’s trust must inspire our actions and guide our decisions. It is for them that we will build a prosperous, united, and democratic Ghana.”
