Mahama Ayariga condemns killing of Bongo NHIA director

Majority Leader in Parliament and MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has condemned the gruesome murder of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), in the Upper East Region.

In a statement released on Tuesday, May 20, Ayariga described the incident — which involved the shooting, killing, and burning of Akugri’s body near Nangodi, close to Bolgatanga — as a “dastardly act” that must not go unpunished.

“I hereby condemn, in no uncertain terms, the shooting, killing, and burning of the body of Mohammed Seidu Akugri,” he stated, calling on law enforcement agencies to launch a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and appealed to the public to remain calm amid the tensions in the region.

Ayariga also stressed ongoing peace efforts led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in Bawku, urging the public to support these initiatives.

“I commend the youth for the restraint displayed so far and their recent efforts to maintain peace in Bawku. Significant progress is being made, and no one should be allowed to derail the process,” he added.
