Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has vehemently denounced the fatal shooting of six women and three men from Bawku on Thursday 21st September 2023.
The deceased were travelling in separate vehicles through the Pusiga District en route to Sinkase in neighbouring Togo.
Approximately 15 other individuals, both women and men, fell victim to this ruthless attack, sustaining injuries, with some currently in critical condition.
In a strongly worded statement, Ayariga expressed his outrage, stating, “This cowardly and senseless shooting of passenger vehicles in the Bawku area and the Walewale route is absolutely unacceptable and continues to disrupt the recent improvements in security in Bawku and its surroundings.”
“The retaliatory shootings must cease, and the security forces must take decisive action against such heinous acts.”
“Urgent measures must be taken by the security agencies to ensure the safety of travellers in the Bawku area, along the Walewale route, and in their vicinity.”
Mahama Ayariga also commended the security agencies for their efforts in minimizing casualties during the Pusiga shootings, while extending his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
He expressed sympathy and well wishes to the victims of gunshot wounds and the injured, emphasizing his hope for their swift recovery.
Ayariga stressed the government’s responsibility to fully commit to resolving the underlying issues that have contributed to the insecurity situation in Bawku, with the ultimate goal of achieving lasting peace.
He urged the youth to recommit themselves to the peace that has prevailed in the region in recent weeks.
The Bawku Central MP emphasized the urgency of addressing the security challenges in Bawku, reinforcing the need for immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of the region’s residents and travellers.
