The two major contenders in the upcoming presidential election, former President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are set to file their nominations at the Electoral Commission’s headquarters today Monday, September 9, 2024.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, will file his nomination earlier at 9:00 a.m.
He will be accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and key party figures, including the NPP National Chairman and General Secretary.
Following the filing, Dr. Bawumia is expected to deliver an address at the NPP’s National Headquarters, outlining his vision for Ghana’s future and rallying support for his campaign.
On the same day, John Dramani Mahama, representing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), will submit his nomination at 2:00 p.m., accompanied by his running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
The filing marks a significant step in Mahama’s campaign, which emphasizes economic recovery, job creation, education, and healthcare reforms.
According to Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Mahama’s spokesperson, the campaign’s core mission is to “build the Ghana we want together.”
In the run-up to the submission of his nomination, Mahama embarked on a four-day tour of the Bono Region on Sunday, visiting all 12 constituencies and engaging local communities, religious leaders, and traditional councils.
He also hosted a youth forum at Sunyani Technical University, pledging to revitalize the economy and create jobs through innovative policies.
With both candidates filing their nominations on the same day, the 2024 election race is heating up, as Mahama and Bawumia seek to galvanize their respective parties and capture the nation’s vote.
