Newly-elected 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has dedicated his recent victory in the party’s presidential primary to former President Jerry John Rawlings.
He also dedicated the victory to former President John Evans Atta Mills and former Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur.
And to all the comerades of the party who helped to build the NDC political tradition before passing away.
He was delivering his acceptance speech at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale on Monday 15th May, 2023.
Mr. Mahama expressed gratitude for being elected to lead the NDC again and said, “With profound gratitude I humbly accept to be the President Candidate of the NDC.”

“I dedicate this victory to the founder of the our party, Jerry John Rawlings, my late boss and mentor Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, to my former Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur and the many hundereds of our senior comrades who laboured to build this political tradition that we have the privilege of leading today.”
He thanked ‘kingmaers’ of the party for their vote of confidence and for the unshaken conviction that he is the most suitable person with experience and vision to leade the NDC to victory in 2024.
He thanked and acknowledged the contribution of Dr. Kwebena Duffuor, Mr. Kojo Bonsu and Mr. Ernest Kobia for what they have done towards enhancing the internal democratic systems of the NDC.
He also thanked the Electoral Commisson, Dr. Sereboa Quicoee and the district election directors for working to ensure the primaries was a resounding success.
Mr. Mahama stated the NDC must win next year’s election to build the Ghana Ghanaians want and pledged to lead the party to a resounding victory come December 2024.
According to him, the victory is not about John Mahama but about the Ghanaian people and creation of a society that allows citizens to live decent and dignified lives.

“It is about expanding access to healthcare so that our mothers and sisters will not lose their lvies carrying out their biological dutry of procreation.”
“It is about the little children whose promising future is cut short because of a dangerous boat-crossing in search of an education.”
“It is also about managing our economy and finances in a manner that does not require us to appropriate the lifetime investments of our retired senior citizens and the middle class.”
His victory, he said, is about raising security, investments and funds for future generations and not not just for spending in a day but about restoring trust once again in institutions and engendering love and pride in the name Ghana.
