National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate for the 2024 general elections, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, has lamented the severe impact of the country’s ongoing crisis on women.
According to her, the situation is affecting everything from education and healthcare to roads and businesses and stressed things are not working out and continue to get worse.
She noted that the difficulties disproportionately affect women who often earn less, stay in school for shorter periods, and bear the brunt of family responsibilities.
Speaking at the NDC 2024 campaign launch at Tamale Jubilee Park on Saturday, July 27, the running mate underscored how women face the challenge of turning a meagre food item like one mushroom into a palatable meal for the family.
The situation, she said, calls for a visionary leader with the experience to provide a bulwark to salvage women from the economic crises.
Prof. Naana Jane praised the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, for his experience, competence, and commitment to truth and integrity.
She expressed gratitude for his decision to run for office again, stressing his new policies aimed at addressing the nation’s problems.
She said, “His Excellency, John Mahama, has thought long and hard about this problem. He did the best he could by everyone during his time in government, and now he is ready to rescue this country.”
The former President, she said, reflected on what is going on and is coming up with new policies.
The NDC running mate took a swipe at those who compare Mahama and Bawumia and argued that unlike things should not be compared.
The performance and achievements of the former President, she said, should not be compared with what the current administration is giving Ghanaians.
“It’s like comparing cassava to oranges or lemons. There’s no commonality among them,” she said and thanked the former President for not giving up on the country.
Professor Opoku-Agyeman urged all Ghanaians to support Mahama’s efforts to stabilize and redeem the country and emphasized the need for collective action to ensure a brighter future for all citizens.
“I thank the northern section of our country for giving the NDC and entire Ghana a person who prioritizes truth over lies, a person who doesn’t give false promises, a capable, highly competent, truthful, respectful leader in the person of His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama.”
“We are counting on all of you. We must all ensure that when he’s done the hard work, this country does not return to such a status again. We must rescue this country and make us all proud to be Ghanaians,” she called.
