Mahama must go unopposed as flagbearer – Ade Coker rallies

The 2020 flagbearer of the NDC, former President John Mahama should be allowed to lead the party into the 2024 general elections unopposed, says Joseph Ade Coker.

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) made this call on Dwaboase on TV XYZ when he explained that contesting the 2020 leader of the party would cost the Congress.

The experienced politician who is seeking to be re-elected to lead the NDC in the Greater Accra region believes although the party was built on the tenets of democracy, he wants Mahama whom he describes as the obvious choice to be conferred the topmost position of the party after their national congress.

“This man maximised the party’s votes from over 4 million to 6 million with his contender (President Akufo-Addo) beating him by about 500, 000 votes and you want who to come and replace him when he can lead us again,” Ade-Coker told host Prince Minkah.

To him, the “little funds Mahama has with him to help the party should not be used on Primaries to the detriment of the party.”

In his estimation, the decision when accepted by the leadership of the party will not deprive the NDC from being seen as democratic family but will rather save the party a needless cost.

Although John Mahama has not openly declared his intension to lead the party in the next general elections, he has been seen in re-organising the NDC at all levels, helping to solidify the base of the umbrella family.

Mahama has been very consistent with his criticism of the Akufo-Addo government superintending a faltering economic growth saddled with high inflation triggered by incessant fuel prices.

Many NDC sympathisers agree with Ade-Coker’s choice of a flagbearer, especially as many NDC communicators have openly declared that Mr Mahama has no choice than to rise to the position to continue with the works his government commenced.
