Former President, John Dramani Mahama has pledged to take full responsibility for the widow and children of the late A.U Farouk, a staunch communicator of the opposition National Democratic Congress who died last Friday in Accra ahead of the 10th National Delegates Congress over the weekend.
The deceased passed on at the Legon government hospital after short illness at the University of Ghana campus where he was lodging ahead of last Saturday’s event to elect new national executives of the NDC.
The mortal remains was immediately dispatch to the northern regional capital for burial Saturday afternoon in accordance with the Islamic tradition.
Hundreds of mourners trooped to the Tamale West Hospital where the body was prepared for his interment at the Zujung cemetery.
Speaking at the Islamic funeral (Adu’a) on Monday in Tamale, the 2022 flagbearer of the NDC said, “We thank the Imams for praying for him and also we will console his family. When the Imams was talking, he said that, Farouk has little children and that the little children have become the responsibility of Suhuyini and I, and so I want to assure him that we’ve taken that responsibility.”
“Suhuyini is here but if anything is above him, he will come to me and we will support to make sure that his death does not impede the progress of the children” Mr. Mahama added.
The former Head of State further presented a cash amount of ten thousand cedis (GHS10,000) for welfare and upkeep of the widow and the children. He also donated GHS1,000 to family for the funeral and another GHS1,000 to Imams to pray for the soul of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the former President was in the company of Mr. Julius Debrah, former Chief of Staff, the NDC newly elected National Chairman, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, first Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Awudu Azorka among other bigwigs of the party.
The late A.U Farouk has been a longstanding communicator of the NDC with over 20years in party activism contributing to national and regional television and radio political discussions.
