Mahama, Duffuor to pay Gh¢500k filing fee – NDC

Party folks interested in leading the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2024 presidential election will have to pay ¢500,000 as a filing fee and ¢30,000 as a nomination fee.

The election of both presidential candidates and Parliamentary Candidates will be held concurrently on Saturday, May 6.

This was decided by the Functional and National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party in a meeting Thursday, January 5.

Renowned Ghanaian pollster Ben Ephson has disclosed that the flagbearer election for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 polls will not be easy.

He said Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a former Finance Minister and ex-Governor of the Bank of Ghana will surprise many people in the contest.

At the same meeting, it was decided that Parliamentary aspirants would also pay ¢5,000 for nomination forms and ¢40,000 as a filing fee.

The party also announced that it will hold its presidential primaries on Saturday, May 6, 2023, to elect a flag bearer for the party to contest the 2024 general election.

With former President John Dramani Mahama touted as the favourite, Ben Ephson said Dr. Duffuor will fare better than many people anticipate.

Sharing insights into the competition between former President Mahama and Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, he said, “Clearly Dr. Duffuor will give the former President a run for his money but he (former President Mahama) will emerge victorious. Former President Mahama will win the flagbearer race but he will not win by the 95 percent he won in the last flagbearer race.”

He argues the former President has already won the hearts of party faithful with some executives owning their loyalty to him, something Dr. Duffuor cannot break.

In a proposed timetable released by the party , the opening of nominations would be from Monday, February 22 to Wednesday, February 24, 2023.

he vetting of the aspirants will be held from Monday, March 27, 2023, to Wednesday, March 29, 2023.
