President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disclosed that his main challenger in the 2020 presidential election, John Dramani Mahama has still not congratulated him on his victory.
President Akufo-Addo revealed his ongoing anticipation for a congratulatory message from Mr. Mahama three years after his election triumph.
During his Constitution Day speech, the President lightened the atmosphere, stating, “On a lighter note, three years on, I am still waiting for my main opponent in the 2020 election to congratulate me on my victory.”
This comment may stir past tensions for National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer Mr. Mahama.
Following the 2020 election results, Mahama contested the validity of the December 7 results by taking the Electoral Commission (EC) and President Akufo-Addo to court.
He sought to annul the declaration and initiate a re-run between himself and President Akufo-Addo.
After three months of hearings, on March 4, 2021, a unanimous decision by a seven-member panel of Supreme Court Judges dismissed Mahama’s election petition.
Chief Justice Anin Yeboah clarified that the petitioner failed to satisfy all five issues outlined by the court to determine the case.
