The majority caucus in Parliament has stated there has been no change in its leadership structure, nor are there any plans to contemplate such changes soon.
The announcement follows media publications indicating a reshuffle of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus leadership.
Addressing the media in Parliament on Tuesday, MP for Bekwai and First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, insisted there has been no such changes in the Majority leadership.
He said, “The publication that is going around is not true. It is false. The Majority caucus has not made any changes to its leadership. The Majority caucus has not contemplated making any changes in its leadership.”
“We tell the whole of Ghana to ignore any such publications. We assure you that we have confidence in the leadership as they are and the status quo shall remain.”
The Caucus also touched upon the nomination of one of its deputy whips for a ministerial position, acknowledging the eventual need for a replacement.
Joe Wise explained that upon the nomination of Frist Deputy Whip, Seyiram Alhassan, a replacement will indeed be necessary.
“However, this will be a considered decision by the caucus, undertaken at the appropriate time to ensure the best fit for our team’s continued success,” he added.
The clarification reinforces the stability and confidence of the Majority caucus in the current leadership and emphasizes that any future changes will be carefully managed and communicated.
The media space was taken over on Monday by reports of a possible reshuffle of the majority front bench. Alexander Afenyo-Markin is reported to succeed Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as the new Majority leader.
Frank Annoh Dompreh, the present Majority Chief Whip, and MP Nsawam-Adoagyiri will ascend to the role of Deputy Majority Leader, thereby creating space for Habib Iddrisu, the current First Deputy Chief Whip, to assume the position of Majority Chief Whip.
The reports indicate that Patricia Appiagyei is likely to be named as the First Deputy Majority Chief Whip while the position of Second Deputy Chief Whip is likely to be filled by Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, MP for Sefwi-Akontombra.
The caucus, however, stressed, “We urge everyone to disregard any misinformation and rest assured that the leadership of the majority caucus remains unchanged. We stand united and focused on our goals, with unwavering confidence in our leadership as it stands.”
