The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has been booed by residents of Suame over poor rood network in the area.
A vehicle of the MP for Suame, a constituency in the Ashanti Region, is reported to have been pelted with sachet water and other items such as coconut husk.
In an interview with JoyNews, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu appreciated the concerns of the agitated residents, “they are not happy about the state of the roads, so if they see anybody in authority, definitely they will react this way,” he said.
It took the timely intervention of the Police to whisk him to safety as the residents descended on him by throwing items his way.
Residents who were agitated by the poor state of the roads staged a protest on Friday to express their displeasure with the Suame MP for failing to fix their roads.
They warned of another demonstration if the roads are not fixed.
With this concern, it is reported that the Majority leader visited the Constituency to inspect the work done with the contractor.
However, upon hearing about his arrival, the irate youth went to the highway and began hooting and pelting him (the MP) with water sachets.
Explaining the delay in constructing the road, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the contractor has been on site to address the situation. However, he experienced an acute shortage of bitumen midway into the project.
“The contractor having to wait for about two weeks, he had to undertake a trip to La Cote D’Ivoire to procure bitumen in order to be able to complete the work that he has started,” the Majority Leader explained.
