Founder and CEO of McDan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley, has called for a mandatory National Service certificate as a requirement for players joining Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars.
The national service, he said, should be mandatory for players before they are selected for the national teams.
He made the call in an acceptance speech as Chairman at the official launch of the National Service Authority (NSA) on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
He said, “I firmly believe that a National Service Certificate should be mandatory for all players before they are selected to join our Black Stars,” reinforcing his belief in the importance of national service as a unifying and nation-building exercise for all citizens.
Mr. McKorley emphasized that the transformation of the National Service Scheme into the newly established National Service Authority, under the National Service Authority Act 2024 (Act 1119), marks a significant milestone in empowering the youth of Ghana.
Ghana has continued to live in the glorious past of the Black Stars which last won the AFCON trophy in 1982.
Worries have been raised with the current Black Stars under Coach Ato Addo composed only of foreign-based players majority of whom were born and grew up in Europe.
