Business magnate Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, is resisting what he describes as an unfair challenge to his 18-year custodianship of a key piece of airport-adjacent land.
This underlines the significant investments he has made to secure and develop the property for long-term economic impact.
McDan, who first took possession of the airport land nearly two decades ago, says he has gone to great lengths to protect it, including personally funding security patrols for over 12 years and erecting warehouses to deter trespassers and encroachers.
Unlike many other tenants in the area, McDan did not register the land with the Lands Commission. Instead, he chose to work directly with the allodial owners from the communities of La, Teshie, and Nungua – a decision he says was rooted in mutual respect and long-standing community relationships.
Supporters argue that his efforts have not only safeguarded the land but also generated jobs and stimulated local economic activity.
They view recent financial demands by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) as a disregard for McDan’s pivotal role in protecting and enhancing the site — a move some believe may be influenced by political undercurrents.
For McDan, the ongoing legal dispute represents more than just a land battle.
It is, he insists, a fight to preserve the legacy of an entrepreneur who took bold risks when others hesitated, and who helped catalyze development in one of Accra’s most strategic economic corridors.
